The KwaZulu-Natal Progressive Primary Health Care (KZNPPHC) is a well established NGO in the KZN province with a track record and a good reputation.

KZNPPHC was part of the National Progressive Primary Health Care Network (NPPHCN) that was established in 1987 as a non-profit organisation, with a focus on Advocacy and Lobbying on health care issues for disadvantaged communities and women’s wellbeing.

The NPPHCN mobilised and educated communities around health care as a fundamental right and worked with other progressive organisations to ensure that broad-based reproductive health rights and access to health care were included in the new constitution of South Africa. NPPHCN as a progressive health organisation assisted in the development of health care policies that influenced the current health legislation and policies in the country.

In 1999 NPPHCN was restructured due to funding challenges and the KwaZulu-Natal branch became autonomous.  A new Section 21 company was established as a separate legal entity known as KwaZulu-Natal Progressive Primary Health Care. KZNPPHC is registered as a non-profit organisation with the Department of Social Development. It is fully accredited by HWSETA as a training provider which offers unit standards based training at National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 1 – 4 according to South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

KZNPPHC’s main focus is to provide comprehensive health care support to South African communities enabling them to undertake health – promoting practices that result in improved health status. The organisation operates mainly but not limited within KwaZulu-Natal Province.
